Laparoscopic Surgery

February 23, 2021

This May 2021, I will have been a veterinarian for 30 years and it is still really exciting for me to learn something new to be able to offer my patients.

This February, I performed my first laparoscopic spay surgery! We will be utilizing this equipment to perform spay surgery, gastropexy procedures (stomach tacking to prevent bloat in large breed dogs), Cystoscopy (bladder and urethra evaluation) and Laparoscopic Assisted Bladder Stone Removal, and other procedures as well. Research has shown that animals undergoing the laparoscopic procedure feel 65 percent less pain than with a traditional spay and we saw this first hand with our patient during recovery yesterday! Due to smaller incisions, recovery generally occurs in half the time compared to post-operative timeframes for an open spay operation and there can be faster wound and skin healing too. This procedure should allow for the patient to have a quicker return to normal activity.

Please call us at (770) 424-6303 you have questions about this affordable procedure for your pet.
